09MnNiDR steel plate is a type of steel plate used for low-temperature pressure vessels, offering excellent low-temperature toughness and strength, suitable for low-temperature environments down to -70°C. Its chemical composition mainly includes carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), vanadium (V), niobium (Nb), aluminum (Al), phosphorus (P), and sulfur (S), with carbon content not exceeding 0.12%, manganese content between 1.20% and 1.60%, and nickel content between 0.3% and 0.8%. This steel plate can be delivered in normalized or normalized + tempered quenched + tempered conditions to ensure its good performance at low temperatures.
The production locations of 09MnNiDR steel plate include Wuyang Steel, Xiangtan Steel, Xin Steel, Wuhan Steel, Chongqing Steel, Nanjing Steel, Jinan Steel, among others. Its physical quality is very high both domestically and internationally, even surpassing that of some foreign steel plates of the same grade. This steel plate has been included in China's GB150-1998 "Steel Pressure Vessels" standard, while the maximum thickness of 0.5Ni low-temperature steel plate in EN10028-4 is 50mm, and the U.S. -70°C grade low-temperature steel plate is 2.3Ni steel, but their low-temperature impact energy indicators are far lower than those of China's 09MnNiDR steel plate.
The microstructure of 09MnNiDR steel plate is ferrite + a small amount of pearlite. Due to its low carbon equivalent (≤0.44), it has a low hardening tendency, is not prone to forming cold cracks, and the weld has good plasticity and toughness. During welding, preheating is usually not required, but if the plate thickness is large or the joint rigidity is high, preheating should be considered. However, the preheating temperature should not be too high to avoid affecting the grain size of the heat-affected zone.
09MnNiDR steel plate has a wide range of applications, mainly used in the manufacture of low-temperature storage tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, towers, reactors, and other equipment, especially in low-temperature storage and transportation equipment in industries such as petroleum, chemical, and natural gas. Additionally, it can be used to manufacture key equipment such as nuclear reactor pressure vessels, boiler drums, steam turbines, and coolers.
